We need volunteers for Earth Day.
Rain Garden: Scott Fanello Reported that we are waiting for official School Board approval, which will hopefully happen at the SB meeting November 2, 2009.
ICLEI: Rebecca Smith presented to Town Council but was unable to use her power point presentation due to time constraints. The town did not appoint a council representative as asked, although Mayor Akers agreed to attend a GREAT meeting. A motion was passed to invite the mayor and Bill Lanham to our November meeting. GREAT officers/board members will hold a special planning session November 16 at 6:30 at the Fayetteville CVB. We need to finish the data phase of ICLEI and move to action planning.
Education: Savanna, Tomoko and Lorien attended the Power Shift Appalachia conference and participated in panel discussions. They informed the group that tax credits are available for alternative home energy projects. Tomoko agreed to e-mail GREAT members information.
Flex E Grant: We are waiting approval of the grant.
Brainstorming: Members brainstormed various ways to reach out to the community and attract more members. We discussed the possibility of starting a monthly “Green Drinks” or “Chat and Chew” at a local restaurant. We also discussed fund-raising ideas such as a wine and cheese event or a prom. A suggestion was made to invite a marketing person to one of our meetings to help us brainstorm, and to form an Organizational Development sub-committee. A motion was passed to get a P.O. Box and a bank account as soon as our 501 C3 status is secure.
A Christmas party for GREAT members is being planned for December.
